Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator who works as a commentator for NBC News in Washington D.C. She is also a television anchor. She graduated with an Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing up in New York City. Mitchell joined KYW Radio and TV as a Philadelphia reporter in 1967. In 1976 she became a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). A few years later, she was a general reporter for NBC News in Washington. The year 1981 saw her begin covering the White House and became chief Congress correspondent in 1988. She was named the chief White House correspondent in 1992 and the chief foreign affairs reporter in 1994 for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell is a former panelist, as well as host of the TV show Meet the Press. She participated as a member of the panel at the 1988 Presidential Debates, which featured George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married with Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has received numerous awards for her journalism achievements, such as the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. The award was presented to her with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award from the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell's very first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. This period included both Ronald Reagan terms in office. Her reporting included a number of important stories like the Iran-contra affair, the budget and tax reform and also the issue of arms control. Mitchell traveled extensively together with President Reagan for summits along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
